This family winery is located on Kövecs Hill, near the village of Csörnyeföld in Zala county, close to the triple border of Hungary, Slovenia, and Croatia. It was founded in 1989 by Dr. László Bussay, a medical doctor. It was thanks to his, and Dr. Ágnes Ratkovics’s, dedicated efforts that Zala returned to Hungary’s wine map. Following Dr. Bussay’s passing in 2014, his daughter, Dóri and her husband (Tamás Kis, Somlói Vándor) took over the the winery. The guiding principle is simple: bring the best possible quality organically farmed grapes into the cellar and to strive not to spoil them. Vineyards are planted with rare local grapes like Csókaszőlő and Laska, as well as Riesling, Olaszrizling, Traminer, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
Somlói Vándor
Somlói Vándor Winery, founded by Tamás Kis in 2010, spans an area of 5.5 hectares. Grapes are harvested from 11 different locations on all four sides of the Somló mountain, enhancing the complexity of the wines. The vineyards are certified organic and the aim is to showcase the unique characteristics of the terroir while favouring traditional winemaking methods. This commitment ensures that each bottle reflects the rich heritage and diverse flavours of the Nagy-Somló district.
