Castel Mimi was founded in 1893 by the last governor of Bessarabia, Constantin Mimi, in the village of Bulboaca. It is Moldova’s first chateau, now beautifully restored and home to a family-owned winery. It owns 200 hectares of vineyards near the Nistru River and over 1000 barrels for wine maturation. Castel Mimi specialises in high-quality dry wines from international and indigenous grapes and produces about half a million bottles annually, exporting to 25 countries, with top markets in Romania, China, Poland, Japan, Sweden, Norway, and The Netherlands. Castel Mimi has become known as the “Little Versailles of Moldova,” and is proud to have hosted the European Political Community Summit in June 2023, welcoming 47 world leaders.
A family winery with beginnings in 1999, run by Dr Lőrincz György and his son Lőrincz György
Jnr who believe that Eger is one of the most
exciting wine regions of Hungary. They farm 45 hectares across 9 plots, growing as many as 20
varieties, and focus on blends that showcase the
terroir – especially in their exciting new wave
premium Bikavér reds that show that this
legendary wine can be world-class (they won Decanter Bestin Show in 2021). They say, “We are grateful that we have the chance to grow grapes here. We would like to create terroir-specific, characterful wines based on
tradition with modern quality winemaking. Old
local varieties, like Olaszrizling, Hárslevelű,
Furmint, Kadarka and Kékfrankos take priority here. We seek to know more about our terroirs and
parcels, to improve our cultivation....and put our heart and soul into understanding the essence of our passion.”
