Mosia Galicea Mare dates back to the early 19th century, when the vineyard was owned by Prince Gheorghe Bibescu. In 1903 when brother and sister George and Nadeja Valentin split the land they inherited, George took over the vineyard, establishing a new plantation of 15 ha on the hills of Oltenia, adding a French-inspired winery in 1915. In 2016, Iosefin Florea restored the estate and equipped the cellar with the most modern technologies while maintaining traditional wine production. Now the Galicea Mare vineyard is almost 100% organic and its 50 ha produce 80,000 litres of wine every year. The grape varieties are: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Feteasca Neagră, Pinot Gris and Tămâioasa Românească.
A family winery with beginnings in 1999, run by Dr Lőrincz György and his son Lőrincz György
Jnr who believe that Eger is one of the most
exciting wine regions of Hungary. They farm 45 hectares across 9 plots, growing as many as 20
varieties, and focus on blends that showcase the
terroir – especially in their exciting new wave
premium Bikavér reds that show that this
legendary wine can be world-class (they won Decanter Bestin Show in 2021). They say, “We are grateful that we have the chance to grow grapes here. We would like to create terroir-specific, characterful wines based on
tradition with modern quality winemaking. Old
local varieties, like Olaszrizling, Hárslevelű,
Furmint, Kadarka and Kékfrankos take priority here. We seek to know more about our terroirs and
parcels, to improve our cultivation....and put our heart and soul into understanding the essence of our passion.”
