Cyprus is renowned for its rich winemaking tradition dating back to 2000 BCE. The island has a unique selection of indigenous grape varieties such as white varieties like Xynisteri, Promara, and Vasilissa, and the red grapes like Mavro, Maratheftiko, and Yiannoudi. Cyprus has never had phylloxera and can claim typically planted on terraced mountain slopes at an altitude of 450m – 1150m, sometimes even higher, and most vines are dry-farmed. Yields are low to moderate, giving rise to intensely aromatic, textural whites and flavourful yet elegant reds. Cyprus wines have been described as ‘the hidden gem’ of the Mediterranean since they are hardly ever found outside the island. Winecore representes 7 wineries on the fair.
