Look south to Szekszárd for some of Hungary’s most elegant and spicy red wines. The region is one of the strongholds of Kékfrankos and Kadarka and covers 2255 hectares over a range of low-lying hills, rising to 250m, running north-south on the western bank of the Danube River. The landscape is varied, which allows different microclimates to shape the wines. Loess soil prevails in most of the wine producing areas, in places mixed with red clay and limestone.
In 2006, the Szekszárd Winemakers Guild was created with the aim of defining and improving the region’s wines. Since 2015, Bikavér, and varietal wines of Kékfranos and Kadarka, can be bottled in the unique Szekszárd bottle, if they are approved by a regional tasting panel. The region will be represented by Eszterbauer Winery, Sebestyén cellar, Szeleshát and Tüske Cellar.
Eszterbauer Winery
Our story goes back a long way: according to archival records, our ancestors have been cultivating the hills of Szekszárd since 1746. We preserve their memory with 20th-century family photos on our wine labels and the stories connected to them. Following local traditions, we showcase the diversity of the wine region through Kadarka, Kékfrankos, and Bikavér.

Sebestyén
We were not born into a family of winemakers. 25 years of hard work and searching have led us to our own style and to the Bikavér wines that we believe offer the best expression of the Szekszárd wine region. We have always attached great importance to the individuality and character of local varieties, and we have tried to combine this with modern wine philosophy and showing the ageing potential of international varieties.

Szeleshát
Szeleshát is a single vineyard, situated in a wind funnel (hence the name: ‘Szeleshát’, meaning ‘windy ridge’). It has a sub mediterranean climate and loess soil that are both very important factors for red wine making. This area of 55ha was replanted by our family between 2001 and 2017. Our most important varieties are Kékfrankos, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.

Tüske Pince
Tüske Pince is a family-owned, artisanal winery from the Szekszárd wine region. The name originates from an ancestor’s nickname (“Tüske” meaning spike, thorn). We have produced easy-to-drink wines since 1995 from local grape varieties (Kadarka, Kékfrankos) by combining our Swabian legacy with modern wine trends.
