The combination of a northerly climate and varied soil conditions means wines from Slovakia have naturally higher acidity, which adds freshness and vibrancy. 90% of Slovak wine is produced with Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), of which there are six: Slovak: Malokarpatská, Južnoslovenská, Nitrianska, Stredoslovenská, Východoslovenská, Tokaj winegrowing region.
