Danube Winemakers is a regional association of 20 wineries located in the western and central parts of the PGI Danube Plain in northern Bulgaria. The region borders Serbia to the west and the Danube River and Romania to the north. It features a temperate continental climate and an average elevation of 178 meters, with peaks exceeding 500 meters. A notable member of the association is the Institute of Viticulture and Enology in Pleven – the fifth oldest scientific research institution dedicated to vine and wine in the world.

– Bononia Estate
Bononia Estate is named after an ancient Roman fortress called Bononia, situated on the Danube River. It was founded in 2013 in the renovated building of one of Bulgaria’s oldest breweries. Bononia Estate cultivates 160 hectares of diverse and indigenous grape varieties.

– Burgozone
As Bulgaria’s only vegan-certified winery, the family estate of Burgozone crafts wines from hand-harvested grapes grown in our own vineyards on deep loess deposits overlooking the Danube river.  We cultivate a diverse range of varieties, from authentic indigenous grapes like the aromatic Tamyanka and vibrant Gamza, to pioneering plantings in the Danubian region such as Viognier and Marselan, alongside classic varietals.

– Gorun Winery

A boutique, family-run winery with a vision, located in Iskar, 30 km from Pleven. Our vineyards are located on the Mizian plateau, the windy hills above the Iskar River and our unique calcareous black soils create the prerequisites for the production of high quality wines. Our priority is local grape varieties, notably Gamza and Kaylashki Misket, but we also grow world classics such as Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon for their expression of our unique microclimate.

– Tipchenitza Winery

Tipchenitza Winery is named after the picturesque village of Tipchenitsa and nestles in the rolling hills of northwestern Bulgaria, in the western part of the Danube Plain. The region boasts centuries-old traditions in the production of vine planting material as well as some of the country’s finest grapes.

– Villa Melnik

Villa Melnik is a family-owned winery in Melnik Region, Struma River Valley, Bulgaria. With 35ha of its own vineyards, the estate is dedicated to championing indigenous grapes – Shiroka (Broad-leaved) Melnik, Melnik 55 and Mavrud alongside classical varieties.Combining sustainable viticulture, low-intervention winemaking and deep respect for tradition, Villa Melnik produces terroir-driven red, white, rose and orange wines, characterized by elegance, complexity, and aging potential.
