Clai Winery

Clai is one of Croatia’s benchmark organic wineries, located in the hills of Istria near the Adriatic coast. Founded by Giorgio Clai in the late 1990s, the estate has become internationally recognised for its terroir-driven wines produced from native varieties such as Malvazija Istarska, Refošk, and Teran. Farming has always been certified organic, with a strong focus on low yields, biodiversity, and minimal intervention both in the vineyard and cellar. Fermentations are spontaneous, élevage is long and gentle, and the wines are bottled unfiltered, resulting in wines of texture, freshness, and ageing potential that transparently express Istria’s unique white flysch soils. Although rooted in traditional winemaking philosophy, the wines remain precise, clean, and free from faults, combining authenticity with serious fine wine drinkability.
